Glomerulonephritides are classified by histological appearance under:

  • light microscopy
  • electron microscopy
  • immunofluorescence

Glomerulonephritides may be either:

  • minimal change
  • diffuse - affecting all glomeruli to a similar degree
  • focal - affecting only a proportion of glomeruli whilst the remainder are normal
  • segmental - in which only parts of an affected glomeruli are diseased whilst the remainder is histologically normal
